Clear Awakening captures the extraordinary beauty of Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe, where impossibly clear turquoise waters surround the iconic, rounded granite boulders sculpted by ancient glaciers. Beneath the surface, sunlight travels through the pristine water, creating delicate ribbons of dancing light across the lake floor, while shimmering reflections sparkle across the surface.

Having grown up in the Lake Tahoe area, these beautiful mountain waters hold a very special place in my heart. There is something almost magical about standing beside the lake and watching the sunlight move through the water. The flickering reflections, the shifting patterns of light, and the incredible clarity create a feeling of peace and wonder that touches my soul.

In this watercolor, I wanted to capture more than the beauty of a familiar landscape. I wanted to share the feeling of the water itself — the way light travels through it, dances along the submerged granite, and creates those fleeting, luminous patterns that seem almost alive.

Working in transparent watercolor felt especially fitting for this piece. By layering delicate washes of turquoise, aqua, and blue, I explored the relationship between light, depth, and transparency. The flowing pigments echo the movement of water, while the softly sculpted granite provides a beautiful contrast to its ever-changing surface.

To me, Clear Awakening is a celebration of those quiet, extraordinary moments in nature that awaken our senses and remind us how beautiful the world can be.
