Mele Kalikimaka — Fine Art Greeting Cards

A festive island Christmas greeting that blends old-world holiday charm with the vibrant beauty of Hawaiʻi.

This Mele Kalikimaka design brings together the warmth of a Hawaiian Christmas with a touch of classic tradition. A radiant red hibiscus blooms at the center, surrounded by lush tropical greens, while the bold Old English lettering gives the card a timeless holiday feel. Framed with flowing aloha-inspired decorative artwork, the design feels both celebratory and distinctly island-inspired.

I chose the beautiful Old English lettering for this design as a tribute to a fascinating piece of Hawaiian history. During the nineteenth century, Hawaiian royalty embraced elements of Victorian jewelry design, including elaborate Old English lettering that became a beloved feature of traditional Hawaiian heirloom jewelry. Princess Liliʻuokalani, who would later become Hawaiʻi's last reigning queen, treasured a gold bracelet engraved with the words Hoʻomanaʻo Mau — “A Lasting Remembrance.”

I love how that elegant lettering became part of Hawaiʻi's artistic heritage. By bringing this historical influence together with my original Aloha hibiscus watercolor, its bold pacific island-inspired borders, and the traditional Christmas colors of red and green, I wanted to create a holiday greeting that celebrates both the beauty and history of Hawaiʻi.

“Mele Kalikimaka” is the Hawaiian way to say Merry Christmas, and this design celebrates that beautiful blend of holiday tradition and local flavor. It feels cheerful, welcoming, and full of aloha — perfect for sending Christmas wishes with a little tropical soul.

Whether you're sharing holiday greetings from Kauaʻi, sending sunshine across the miles, or simply love a Christmas card that feels both traditional and uniquely Hawaiian, these greeting cards are miniature pieces of art meant to be enjoyed, shared, and treasured.

Art to share. Aloha for the holidays.
